The problem
A members club needs more than a website: applications, invoicing and renewals, a member portal and a staff console, all sharing one source of truth, and it had to ship fast.
Key decisions
- 01
Double booking is impossible at the database level: each booking stores a time range, and an exclusion constraint per space and per member rejects overlaps, even when two requests arrive at once.
- 02
Every table starts locked. Members only see what’s published, staff do the writing, and a test proves the public site can read nothing sensitive and write nothing.
- 03
Invoicing runs through Hyfin with the club’s ledger as the authority: a webhook verifies and settles each payment, and a daily sweep raises renewals and catches anything the webhook missed. Emails go out through an outbox, so a failed send never loses a booking.
Outcome
Built solo in 14 days, from schema to invoicing: 270 commits, 12 design specs and 19 phase plans. A marketing site with the membership application, a member portal and a staff console, live and taking applications.
